Where IS God?
Where IS God? Why does our Creator seem to be so far away, if He even exists?
What a world we live in, today! There seems to be violence everywhere, a world-wide pandemic that has already killed millions, a devastating war in Europe that threatens to engulf the world, children being slaughtered in a hail of bullets, and an epidemic of drugs killing our young people. Where is God in all this? If God is, where IS God? Why isn’t He bringing all this trouble to an end and saving the world? These same questions were being asked by the people of Israel and Judah in Isaiah’s day. There is trouble everywhere. Where IS God?
“Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.” Isaiah 59:1 – 4
Nowhere will you find two verse together that so clearly explain what the real problem is in this world. The first two verses of this chapter tell us that it’s not that God is weak or not paying attention. The problem is us! Human beings!
I God is not Weak
-
The problems we observe have nothing to do with God being weak. Our Creator is not weak! God is incredibly awesome!
-
Secular man with his “science falsely so called” (1 Timothy 2:6) tells himself that everything we see has happened by accident. He convinces himself, without any proof or logic, that the physical world created itself out of nothing. He even redefines nothing and makes it something, a “very unstable substance,” that suddenly exploded into everything.
-
Yet even a child knows that nothing means nothing!
-
Then, after logic has been thrown into the void to avoid any need for God in the physical world, the mental gymnastics proceed to explain how, in a universe where the natural laws require everything to move from order to chaos, instead, the chaos of the Big Bang organized itself into planets, stars, constellations and galaxies, that maintain their places and orbits continuously throughout the vast ages they suppose our universe to hold.
-
The favoured explanation for what power created the universe is, “gravity,” yet they cannot explain how gravity could exist without a universe, nor even what gravity actually is.
-
LiveScience.com says, “Gravity is one of then four fundamental forces in the universe, alongside electromagnetism and the strong and weak nuclear forces. Despite being all-pervasive and important for keeping our feet from flying off the Earth, gravity remains, in large part, a puzzle to scientists.” In other words, they know it exists, but they do not know what it is. Yet they are happy to defy all logic to say that gravity created everything.
-
-
-
The Bible says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
-
In fact, this simple, succinct, and eloquent statement is one of the most logical statements ever written. An all-powerful being who is outside of space and time created space and time. There must be a creator!
-
While God cannot be proven with science, His existence and the need of a primary cause logically agree with all the evidence, while the so-called Big Bang theory makes an illogical leap from nothing to everything by the power of something that did not and could not exist until it came into existence – gravity.
-
The Bible says, “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.” Isaiah 40:28
-
-
-
The Bible says, “No man has seen God…” John 1:18, but that doesn’t prove He doesn’t exist, nor that He is weak. In fact, God’s Word warns those who deny His existence or say He is weak. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” Romans 1:18 – 20 Our creator is real and He is not weak!
II God is not Deaf
-
It is not because God cannot hear that He does not act when people cry out to Him. There is another reason and it’s a big one:
III It’s Sin
-
-
-
Sin is the problem.
-
Your iniquities, your sins, have separated between you and God your Creator.
-
Your sins have hid His face from you.
-
-
It’s not that God is weak when He doesn’t answer. It’s because sin has come between you and God, like a heavy, dark, and filthy curtain.
-
-
IV God Won’t Look
-
-
-
God will not just pull back the curtain of sin.
-
The whole world walks in sin, ignoring and denying God. The only time most people ever acknowledge God, at all, is when they are in deep trouble, but they want Him to help them on their terms, without them giving up their sin.
-
Sinner, repent and believe in Jesus Christ while you can! He is your God and your Creator. He is also your Saviour, very able to save even the greatest of sinners.
-
-
Christian, when you walk in deliberate sin, you must pull back the curtain by confessing to God that you are wrong. G0d won’t do that. “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” 1 John 1:5 – 10
-
If you want fellowship with God; if you want God to look; if you want God to hear – you must pull back that dark curtain of sin in humble, honest confession to Him. Then He will cleanse you and restore your fellowship. Then you will again realize His great power and strength in your life.

V God Won’t Listen
-
God will not listen to those who choose to reject God in favour of their own choices. God is your creator and He loves you, but He will not listen to you when you walk in rebellion. You must humble yourself before your Creator and submit yourself to Him.
VI Humans have Chosen Sin
-
Sin is a choice humans make. It is the nature of man to choose sin. When the first man sinned, or chose to do what he wanted, rather than to obey God, the sin nature, which we have all inherited, entered mankind. The Bible says, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” Romans 5:12 Sin is the rejection of God our Creator in favour of our own desires. It is the creature claiming to know more than the Creator.
-
All sin is by choice. It is our nature to sin, just as it is a bird’s nature to fly and a fish’s nature to swim. But sin is a direct rejection of God.
-
When we reject God, He is not weakened in any way. But He does not listen, nor answer, nor act, when sinners cry out while still in rebellion.
-
You must first come humbly before God, confessing that you are a sinner, and putting your faith in Jesus Christ, who died in your place to take away your sins. The Bible says, “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.” Psalm 147:5,6
-
VII God is Mighty to Save
-
God is not weak. It is us who are weak. All of us are naturally condemned to eternal death, consciously separated from God forever. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”Romans 3:23
-
But almighty God has provided the solution. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
-
God is not weak. He is mighty to save. “The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 It is the greatest joy to the Creator to save those whom He has created!
Conclusion
Where IS God? He’s very near! He’s waiting for you! It is our sin that places a separation between us and God. When you feel alone, that God is not with you, or that God is not able to help you, it is not God who is weak. Your creator is not weak! It is you! Therefore, Christian, repent and come humbly before God. “What is my sin?” you might ask. Maybe it is simply ignoring God most of the time. Maybe it is worse. But the answer is the same. Repent and come humbly before God.
If you have never put your faith in Jesus Christ to save you from the penalty for your sin and give you eternal life, don’t put it off. The price has already been paid. Jesus Christ, our Creator and Saviour, became a human being, lived a perfect life, and died a perfect death in order to pay the penalty that we owed. He has paid it all, for all people, for all time. The debt has been paid, but it is a gift. A gift must be received! So accept His great gift to you for yourself by putting your faith in Jesus Christ. Now is the time to be saved. Don’t put it off. Tomorrow may not come for you! God is waiting for you, not willing that you perish, but that you turn to Him and have everlasting life!
